Motorcycle Repair: Adapting a V Star tank, yamaha virago 1000, tank tunnel

I have a 1984 Yamaha Virago 1000,this is a total rebuild. My question is; I want to install a 2002 V star gas tank with gages in tank and clean up the front end. The controls are also V star, Do I need a wireing harness from a v star to do this? Do you know of any problems I may have? Thank you.   Terry

You will need a V-Star wiring harness from the handlebars and from the gauges. You will then need to splice all the wires into the correct locations on your existing Virago harness - a difficult, but not impossible, task. You will need a wiring diagram for the V-Star and the Virago to avoid any confusion.

You will also need to fabricate mounts for the gas tank - if it fits! Check to see that it will at least sit in the position you want, if the frame backbone is too large or the tank tunnel is the wrong shape and depth you nay want to rethink the project.
