Motorcycle Repair: 1982 yamaha maxim 550, changing spark plugs, exact location

My Maxim runs great for the most part it's just after running for a couple of rides the plugs get carboned up and turn black.The book says it's running rich and it's the fuel to air mix and adjust the pilot screw or go with 1 grade higher plug.Any suggestions? And where is the pilot screw?

I would try adjusting the pilot screws first before changing spark plugs. Also, check the air filter to make sure it is not plugged. Unfortunately, I do not know the exact location of the pilot screws for your particular bike.
