Motorcycle Repair: generator not charging battery, stator rotor, ohm resistance

Question
I put a new alternator rotor and new voltage regulator rectifier on my 1980 cb750c and within 25 miles the volts dropped to 10 volts while running. The stator shows 0.7 ohms. What do you think may be causing this?

Answer
Sorry it taken so long Bill, my wireless router quit working last week.  There are four parts to the charging system. The regulator/rectifier, the stator, rotor and field coil.  You need to check the resistance on the three yellow wires on the stator.  They should have the same resistance between the yellow wires and no continuity to ground.  The field coil should also have no continuity to ground.  A .7 ohm resistance on the field coil sounds too low.  I would expect it to be more like 1.5-3.5 ohms. I don't have a manual so this is more of a guess based on the amperage I would expect to be going through those units.  If you've replaced the regulator, it will have to be the field coil or the stator.
