Steering Column Repair: 2002 Chev Silverado 2500 hd 4x4 4dr, chev silverado, high beams

Question
QUESTION: When i tilt the wheel my low beam lights go out, now in some positions low beams won't work at all. High beams work fine. What is the problem?

ANSWER: Hi Charles:
Most of the time (sadly) it's the multifunction switch that is failing.  The wires that are part of the switch are being pulled in certain positions and relaxed in others.  When they are pulled that tight, they lose connectivity inside the switch (non-serviceable).

The only other thing I can recommend is to check the connection of those wires into the switch and see if you can create a little more slack in them so they are not being pulled as tight.  Once in a while it will alleviate the problem you described

Good luck
Doug

QUESTION: Thanks, do you mean the ignition switch or the dimmer switch?

Answer
gm multiswitch
gm multiswitch
Hi Charles:
The multifunction switch is the switch that incorporates the turn signal, high beams, wiper and cruise lever all on one stalk.  I am enclosing a picture for you.  that is the switch I am referring to.

Lastly, here is a link to how to replace it posted on our company site if you are so inclined.
