Motorcycle Repair: 1981 CB650 hard starting, nature of the beast, cb650

Question
I purchased this bike last year and since then I have had the carbs synched but it is very cold blooded and hard to start.  Would this be a problem with the carbs needing rebuilt or is it just the nature of the beast

Answer
The cold hard starting indicates it's not getting the fuel enrichment properly from the choke system. If the float level is set correctly, the choke system is actually working and the jets are clear, it should start within a few seconds of cranking.  If the bike starts fine hot, it's running too lean on cold start.
