Motorcycle Repair: 1982 CB900C Honda, honda models, honda 750

Question
I am wanting to rebuild my bike before this summer but don't have the funds to buy all new parts. My neighbor has a Honda 750 he is willing to let me have parts off it for my bike if feasible to use on my bike. I am curious as to if I would be able to part out a 1983? Honda 750 and use them for my CB900? If any at all, parts such as speedometer unit and cable, lights, faring, kickstand etc?

Answer
Some parts can almost certainly be exchanged between various Honda models of similar vintage. The speedometer & tachometer have the same gearing so they will work, but you my have to modify the bracket or make up something. Headlights, tail lights & turn signals can usually be made to work with little effort. Fairings usually came with a bracket designed to fit a specific frame - sometimes similar models use similar frame but sometimes they are just enough different that it won't fit without some modification.

I don't know exactly which parts from the 750 will fit your 900C, but I know who will know: The folks at the Honda DOHC Customs forum http://www.cb750c.com
