Buick/Olds: buick - 2 questions, buick electra, 1978 buick electra

Question
Hi-
Have a 1978 Buick Electra, 403 CID.  The horn has stopped working, so thought I would find horn and see if it is getting power.  I have looked everywhere in engine compartment and under front-cannot find it.

Second question - it has a thm 400 tranny and the overdrive is activated by a plunger like electrical switch attached to the gas pedal, not too long ago the switch [plastic]broke into pieces. I superglued it back together as a temporary measure, til I could get a new one.  Cannot find one.  Parts store clerks think I am crazy, they don't know what I am talking about.  Maybe I can go to a salvage yard or rig up a different kind of switch.  Just wanted your thoughts on this.

               thank you

Answer
Hello Susan

For your first question, The horn for that can I believe to be tucked just under the fender over the driver's side front wheel, usually quite out of site, I have NO idea why they put it there.

Second, you are not crazy, I know exactly what you mean by the switch on the transmission. You'll likely need to get it from a shop that will specialize in classic cars simply because 1980 was the last year for that switch and hasn't been carried for nearly 25 years. They will know what you mean because those switches were used in great excess since 1950.
