Motorcycle Repair: valve and cam chain adjustment, chain tension, bill silver

Question
My 1975 Honda T-L 250 took about 10 kicks to start after about 20 yrs. To be sure, should I adjust cam chain tension cold and valve tappet clearance hot? Both have never been adjusted and the engine has never been opened. Thank you Brian

Answer
Brian, valves should always be checked when the engine is cold. Theoretically, the camchain will tighten up a little when the engine is hot as it grows some when warm.

Clean the points real good, then it will start on the first kick!
