Motorcycle Repair: 1995 harley soft tail, volt meter, stator

hello,  i have a 1995 harley soft tail & the battery keeps going dead. i understand there could be a short.  is there any common places?  & how does the charging system work? & where is it?

First thing you need to do is check the battery to make sure it has water in it and its good. If it is then charge it up. Start the bike and at the battery, with a volt meter, check the voltage. At around 2000 RPM you should be showing 13.5 volts. If not, then you need to test the stator for a short. If the stator is good then the regulator is bad and needs replaced
