Motorcycle Repair: noise in honda 1980 cb750c engine, 1980 honda cb750c, cam chain

Question
Hi, I have 19,000 miles on my bike -bike is in mint condition and runs well-a few months ago I started to hear rapping sound when warming up -cant tell exactly where its coming from(sounds louder on my left sideor center of engine)Ichanged oil (10w40)in sept.-no leaks -noise goes away above 1500rpms and quite at 2000 and up-tried to adjust camchain -no effect-not sure I did it right-would you please give me some advice on what to do ?and what you think it might be-thanks Ken (1980 honda cb750c)

Answer
Ken, it sounds like the cam chain needs adjustment.  The best way to adjust the cam chain is to loosen up the pinch bolt and then put a wrench on the crank and rotate the crank so the slack is on the back side of the cylinder.  Tighten up the pinch bolt and see if it doesn't get quieter.
