Motorcycle Repair: 1986 Honda interceptor vf500, honda interceptor 500, vf500

Question
Ok sir here's the story....I bought I 1986 Honda interceptor 500, I put a new
battery in it and it started right up and I road it all day.I went out the next
morning to ride and it started right up...I was standing there letting it warm
up, then it just shut off. So I moved the choke a little and tried to start it back
up and all I got was a clicking noise.... I checked the battery and it seems
fine but it just won't start. If you have any suggestions for me I'd appreciate
it......thank you.            Chris

Answer
Chris, it sounds like a dead battery to me.  Check the voltage at the battery when you try and crank the engine.  I think you'll find it drops way down.  I'd recommend you try charging the battery, and see if that doesn't fix the starting problem but be sure to check the voltage at the battery  with the engine revved up to 3000-4000 rpm after you have charged it and got the bike running.  I think you'll find it's less than 13.4-14.5 volts indicating you have a charging proplem.
