Motorcycle Repair: chain oiler rear drive chain, chain oiler, hose line

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1977 Super Glide and I am trying to find out how to rerun my chain oiler. I just found a new T section that comes out the motor and then there is the small hose line and the large hose line. I don't remember how this was installed originally. I need to know where the lines run so I can reinstall them and find out where the hose is connected to and how

ANSWER: The small hose goes from the oil pump to the back of the inner primary. The hose at the center of the inner primar goes to the tee. The other hose, from the back of the inner primary, goes to the bottom vent on the motor

QUESTION: Hey Mike,

I'm not sure I explained my question right the first time. I am trying to figure out how the TEE, for the rear chain oiler connects and how the hoses are routed. I see they have a clamp for the chain oiler hose. I don't know where the hose going to the rear chain connects and if there is just a clamp at the end of the hose to connect it to the back side of the inner primary or is it connected to the transmission. I hope this is making sense. I explained it the best way I know how.

Thanks,

Tommy

ANSWER: Lets make sure we are talking about the same chain. Are you talking about the rear chain or the primary chain?

QUESTION: I'm talking about the rear chain

Answer
Your rear chain oiler runs from the t on the oil pump and drips on the chain from a hose fitting above the chain close to the front sprocket. It should drip about one drop a minute.
Personnally, if it were me, I wouldnt reconnect it. What happens is you sling oil on the back of the bike, your putting dirty oil from the motor on the chain, and you have to clean it up alot. If you get some chain lube and put it on about every 500 miles it would be alot better.
