Motorcycle Repair: stator, chain and sprocket, screw driver

I am trying to change out the stator on my 1992 HD Electra Glide Classic.  I have the primary chain and sprocket off.  There is a round disc with two holes in it covering the stator that feels like it is spring loaded how do I get it off?

The round disc with the 2 holes in it is called the rotor and its not spring loaded its held on to the stator by magnetic force. They make a puller for this but before I owned one I just use to put a screw driver in each hole or some sort of hooked tool and pull it off. Once you get it out about 1" or so it should break the magnetic force and come right off there are no other devices holding this rotor on just force.
