Motorcycle Repair: Need help if one connected wrong terminals to jump start a battery, car toyota avalon, toyota avalon

Question
Hello,

Yesterday I tried jump starting my Yamaha Silverado motorcycle from my car Toyota Avalon and connected the wrong terminals. I kept the car running for 5 mins and smoke started to come out from motorcycle battery.

I dont know where to start. Can the battery still be okay? Is it okay to try connecting the right terminals to the same battery one more time? Where should I start?

Thanks,

Answer
I'm a harley/triumph man but I'll give your problem a shot. First off I've always been told to never jump start your motorcycle off from a auto. But if this is the only means available, at least don't have the auto running. Connecting the cables backwards brings to mined all the wiring in your bike melting the coating off from it, Did this happen if so a major rewiring my be in order. If not then you should replace the battery since you said it was smoking. For your last question if you didn't blow anything up with the wires connected backwards one more time correctly probably won't hurt.
