Motorcycle Repair: GSXR 600 CLUTCH PROBLEMS?, harley davidson sportster, sportster models

Question
THE ENGINE MAKES A "CLUNKING" NOISE RUNNING AT AN IDLE. SEEMS TO GO AWAY WHEN CLUTCH LEVER IS PULLED IN. ALSO NOTICED ALUMINUM FLAKES WHEN OIL WAS DRAINED ON ENGINE. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE A PROBLEM WITH THE CLUTCH OR HOUSING FOR THE CLUTCH TO YOU? THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE GIVEN ON THIS MATTER.

Answer
Clayton I don't know much about the foreign bikes but I was reading your question and it reminded me of a problem I've had with 86-90 Harley Davidson sportster models. The alternator on these sportster models is located on the back side of the clutch shell. The magnets of the rotor had come loose and would clunk against the stator when the bike ran and pulling in the clutch lever would help. I don't know where the alternator is on your bike but it might be worth a check.
