Motorcycle Repair: battery change on tour glide, battery change, connecting link

Question
Dumb me left the ignition switch in the on position.  My garage isn't heated and the battery is dead. do I have to remove the seat to get at the battery? The bike is an 87 tour glide. Any chance of further problems due to the ignition bring left on? I tried a battery charger but the temp here in Minn. has been brutal and it might be frozen.  There is a small connecting link to plug the charger to and I am not sure if i am getting a connection.  I figure I will need a new battery anyway and the info on steps to replace would be appreciated. Thanks Darrell

Answer
The only problem you will have is if you left the on/off switch on with the ignition. If you did you will need to check yoru coil. You might have fried it. The battery is either under the seat, or on the right side of the bike, behind the side cover. The plyg you are talking about is probably for a battery tender. The battery doenst have enough juice to charge a dead battery. You need a charger with 2 amps  and charge it for at least 4 hours or over night
Good luck and happy riding
