Motorcycle Repair: Honda ct200 valve guide, valve stem seals, honda ct200

Question
hi bob, i need to change the valves and valves guides on a 1964 Honda ct200. The problem is the valve guides do not look like they can be pressed out. I also looked at parts fiche and the valves guides are not listed as replaceable parts.Right now there is 0.1 mm of play between the valves and guides, would it be ok if i just fit some valve stem seals from a ct 90 and call it quits ? is it possible to drill the cylinder head and press fit valves guides from the ct 90 or is that crazy?

Answer
Yvan, that is not a bad idea, if you can machine the top of the valve guide to suit a valve stem seal.  If you really wanted to go wild with machine shop services, you could try to install a whole valve guide from a CT90, but you are working with steel on steel vs steel on aluminum for the S90 head. Your local machinist may have some ideas.

Did you check the valve stems to see if they were worn, instead of the guides? You might be able to have a bronze sleeve installed in there, too, with some imagination.

If you are just going to putt around on this thing, you can probably just use the valves as they are with a good lapping and wide seat surface.
