Motorcycle Repair: timing, honda ct, cam chain

1969 Honda ct 90 K1 total rebuild...try to start only back fires,adj valves, adj points, excellent spark. now i wondner if i have the cam chain set right? do you have a diagram, or any other sugestions??

The crank has to be positioned so the flywheel indicates it's on top dead center "T" and there's an "O" on the cam gear. There's a couple of tabs cast into the head under the cam cover.  You have to line the O in between those two tabs.  If there's not two tabs there will be a notch to line the O up with.  A tooth off of timing will have the symptoms you describe.
