Motorcycle Repair: running bad and getting worse, GL1100, GoldWing

Question
I have a 1983 GL1100 interstate. While on a short trip (approximately 100 kilometers)my bike lost almost all power. If I feed gas quickly it will almost die, but if I feed it gas VERY SLOWLY then it will gradually pick up. It will kind of hold it's speed if I play with the throttle. I did the obvious like changed the plugs, fuel filter, oil & filter etc. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Answer
It sounds like a carb related problem to me. Or maybe the vacuum line that runs to the timing advance has come off or started to leak.

You didn't mention when (if ever) your carbs have been serviced. Your bike is 25 years old. That's a long time for rubber parts, particularly in contact with fuel and exposed to engine heat. It is most likely that one of the o-rings has cracked, a diaphragm has developed a hole or a hose has cracked.

Have a look at www.randakks.com Randakk is a top Goldwing restorer and a carb specialist. His site has a lot of info on GL1000 & 1100 carbs. He also sells the best & most complete carb rebuilding kits in the market.
I rebuilt the carbs on my 1000 last spring with his complete rebuild kit and the info on the site and it runs like a completely different machine now.

I also recommend joining the Naked GoldWings forum. This is an online discussion group mainly for people with 4 cylinder GoldWings that don't have fairings, but if yours has a fairing we won't hold it against you. Membership is free and there are a lot of people there with a ot of experience that they are wiling to share.
