Motorcycle Repair: Locked Front Brake/Wheel, yamaha bikes, brake calibers

Question
Hello,  I read your profile regarding only knowing about Harleys but I have a quick general question.  I know Yamaha bikes aren't your area but I have one that I am trying to sell.   The bike has been sitting a while and the front brake/wheel appears to be locked up.  I can move the bike but only with quite a bit of effort.  I have a guy coming to look at the bike tonight and would like to be able to tell him what the problem might possibly be.  Do you have any idea what might cause this sort of thing on a bike?  Like I said I'm not looking for specific advice rather just a possible diagnosis of what can cause this on any type of bike.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Most brake calibers have whats called a puck inside. It is moved by the pressure when you apply the brakes. Over time, when sitting for a while, they will stick. What you would have to do is remove the caliber and the puck, clean it, remove the old fluid and reinstall with fresh fluid and you should be fine
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
