Motorcycle Repair: Carb jetting???, crane hi, ft elevation

Question
QUESTION: I have a 113" s&s, v&h pipes w/baffles, forcewinder forward facing intake and a Super G carb. Question: At idle, the bike will only idle with the mix screw all the way in, screw it out a bit and the bike will puff black smoke. At take off, the bike sputters in low rpm, once in high rpm the bike runs very strong, until you hold the throttle steady (at say 40, 50, 60, 70mph), then the bike begins to chug and miss until I give it some throttle. I find myself revving the motor up to keep it running smooth???  I am at 3500-4000 ft elevation running a 0295 intermediate and a 68 main jet. The plugs are a beautiful milky tan.  Thank You!!

ANSWER: Has the bike always done this, or is this somthing new? What ignition are you running?

QUESTION: I have only owned the bike for one year (put about 2000 miles on it). But yes, since I owned it it has done this, and the guy I buoght it from said that it has been a pain to get the jetting correct? But I am assuming the issue with the air/fuel mix srew all the way in is saying something more??  It is running a Crane Hi-4 ignition.

Thanks

Answer
you have a problem with the carb. If you have to air/fuel mixture screw in all the way the bike should not start or run at idle. If you are getting black smoke, then you are getting to much fuel.
Your best bet is to contact S&S and talk to them about the problem. they will probably have you remove the carb and send it in to them. It is probably somthing that is leaking by that is causing the problem
Good luck and happy riding
