Motorcycle Repair: charging problem, honda sl125, ac generator

Question
Hello, I have a Honda SL125 S0 1970 motor that I have mounted on a three wheeler and I have had it running and it runs fine, however; it doesnt run for a very long time I figured it is the charging system because if i charge my battery back up it will run on the first kick and drive for a little while. My battery shows to be drained after it dies because it wont start again. i was wondering how do I check to see if the ac generator is producing enough juice and is there a way I can check to see if it is bad. I hooked up the wires correctly I believe. I ran a wire from the ac generator to an ac to dc device and to the battery to charge it. If you have any advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thank You.

Answer
The first thing to do is get a shop manual for the SL125. Make sure that you have made all of the charging system connections exactly the way the SL125 schematic shows (not necessarily the way the ATV's system was originallywired).

If you have wired it up correctly and it still doesn't charge the battery, follow the shop manual's directions to test the charging system.

I could try to get access to a shop manual and then repeat what it says for you, but that would probably violate some copyright laws. Besides, you are dealing with equipment that is so old that you aren't likely to find a shop that will touch it so you will probably have to do all your own repairs. That means you need to become really familiar with the shop manual.
