Motorcycle Repair: Main fuse? 86 Goldwing, starter solenoid, jumper cables

Question
My '86 Wing has sat for 3 months.  Battery dead.  Jumped it with my truck and after a few minutes it ran.  I took the cable off, shut the bike off to see if it would start on its own.  It wouldn't.  Long story short, I reversed the jumper cables (but only for 2-3 seconds) and now nothing works.  I'm thinking and HOPING its the main fuse but where is it and what does it look like?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks much.

Answer
Hi Bill...

Hm.... you didn't mention which model Goldwing you have or if the ignition key was turned on while the battery was reversed. But most often on Goldwings, you can locate the main fuse (30amp) by first finding the positive battery cable. Trace it back to the starter solenoid and then you'll find the main fuse. Your main fuse might be a strip of fusable metal covered by a plastic "door" that pulls open, or it may be a blade fuse that is located on top of the starter solenoid... either way, you'll find it by following the positive battery cable. Hope this helps and I pray the fuse was the only damage!! Good Luck Bill...
