Motorcycle Repair: 2004 Fatboy FLSTF lower fork replacement, harley service, car mechanic

Question
I just bought chrome lower forks for my 2004 FLSTF.  I'm looking for instructions on how to do the swapout myself.  I have a friend with a lift, tools, and general bike knowledge. I am a car mechanic.  Do you have instructions or can you tell me if there are any tricks, gotcha's, or parts I should have ready like seals, bearings etc

Answer
Your best sourse would be the harley service manual. Its not that hard to change them out.
Lift the bike on a stand and drain the fork oil. remove the top caps on the forks and remove the springs. remove the wheel and fender. Go to the bottom of the fork and inside you will find a allen head nut. Remove it and the lower will slide off. It might take some forse to slide it off. Once you have it off, remove the clip that holds the seal in and remove the seal. Install the new lowers in reverse and put in the fork oil before putting the top cap on
Good luck and happy riding
