Motorcycle Repair: gel battery for 78 CT90?, battery lifespan, standard batteries

Question
I recently acquired a clean 78 CT90, which now needs a battery. I heard it said at a vintage meet that a gel battery was available for this bike, and would greatly improve battery lifespan. I've searched and found standard batteries, but no gel type. Any idea on where I might find such a battery?

Answer
Chris, most motorcycles have 12v systems, which are fairly well covered with the new gel batteries. CT90s have 6v systems, so the options are either few or none.

You might try some electronics stores or ones that sell security systems or other kinds of electronic components that require a battery backup.

If you ride the bike regularly and the charging system is functioning properly, the standard battery will be fine. Any leakage through the rectifier can drain the battery down to zero overnight, however.
