Motorcycle Repair: honda cb100 no spark, 12v battery, 12 volts

Question
I've got a '72 cb100 that's got no spark. I'm fairly certain that the previous owner hooked a 12v battery to it. What damage would that most likely cause?
Where should i start to try and get this old h bike running?
thanks,
-RJ

Answer
RJ, 12 volts on the system would burn up most of the components that happened to be turned on at the time depending on how long it was connected.  I'd start by checking the power wire going to the coils first. If the black and white wire has 12 volts to it, and the points are opening and closing to break the ground, it's most likely the coil is bad.
