Motorcycle Repair: CMX 250 HONDA CARB, air fuel mixture, adjustment screw

Question
QUESTION: When trying to help a friend with a gummed up carb. I had to disasseble and dip it, but my problem is the adjustment screw just infront of the bowl.. I forgot to count the amount of turns before removing, and once assembled you are not able to make complete turns as it has a stop to limit adjustment to small increments......

ANSWER: If it's a plastic cap you can pry it off but be careful you don't break the air fuel mixture screw.  If it's a metal cap you can't get those off without breaking the screw unless you grind off the tab.  I'm not positive what the setting is from teh factory but I'd start at about 2-3 turns.  Some bikes are only 1-2 and others are 2-3.

QUESTION: On the same bike no matter what I do to the adjustment screw it will nt idle and seems to be flooding...... I have doudle checked all air and fuel passages and no blockages..... VERY CONFUSED

Answer
The flooding can can bed caused by a coupleof things.  The float levels could be set too high, or the air cleaner may be plugged or the choke could be stuck on.

I'm afraid you arelooking fro anything that increases the fuel or restricts the air getting into the engine.
