Motorcycle Repair: 1947 CHIEF BONNEVILLE FRONT SPRING R&R, eye bolt, spring compressor

Question
HOW DO I SAFELY REMOVE THE FRONT GIRDER SPRINGS?? BIKE IS ON A STAND WITH SUSPENSION RELAXED AS FAR AS THE SHOCK WILL LET IT DROP. CANT REMOVE SHOCK EYE BOLT IT HITS THE SPRING. THIS WOULD LET THE SPRINGS RELAX A LITTLE MORE, DOUBT IF IT WOULD BE ENOUGH THOUGH. THERE IS TO MUCH TENSION ON THE SPRINGS TO JUST PULL THEM OUT, OR UNBOLT EVERYTHING AND LET IT FLY APART. ANY KNOWLEDGEABLE HELP WILL BE REWARDED. THANK YOU,CHRIS

Answer
Chris,

did you get the spring out?
I was going to suggest a small spring
compressor like they use on autos.

or possibly a pair of these:

-In the old days they use to put lots of weight
on the front end and then wire or chain the
spring closed, then take the weight off the spring
to remove it. I prefer the spring compressor idea
if it can be fitted.
