Motorcycle Repair: 1976 Honda 550 4 Super Sport., velocity stacks, honda 550

Question
Rich; This bike has not run since 1991, fuel was not drained and of course the carbs are gummed up. How the heck can they be removed, the problem is the collector box between the carbs and air cleaner, it will not come out, does the engine have to be moved ahead? Thak you, Marcel.

Answer
Those are really packed in there.  I always pull the rubber velocity stacks out before trying to get the carbs off.  It could be difficult if they are hardened up but that's the way the carbs come out.  If they are too hard to pull out, you may have to take the motor mounts loose and roll the engine forward. That will give you enough clearance to work them out.
