Motorcycle Repair: left blinkers not blinking, turn signals, flasher

Question
I own a 87 suzuki gsxr 1100 and i recently installed a new relay switch for the blinkers to function. the problem is the right ones work just fine but the left ones stay on but dont blink?  What could be causing this?  is there a separate relay for the left ones?

Answer
There is only one flasher, so if the signals on one side work but the ones on the other don't it means that the problem is either the wiring, a bulb or the switch.

The first thing to check is the bulbs. If one bulb is dead (or disconnected) the circuit may not have enough current to make the flasher turn off. This is such a common occurrance that I would almost bet money that one of them is coming on and the other is not.
Note that the front signals are also marker lights - the bulbs are dual filament type 1187 - the low filament should always be on when the key is on and the brighter filament should come on when the signals are in use.

After you determine which bulb does not come on, swap it with the bulb on the right side.
If the problem moves with the bulb the bulb is dead.
If the left side still doesn't flash, have a look where the light that doesn't come on plugs into the harness. It should be plugged in much the same way as the one for the right side is. If one of the wires is unplugged you have found your problem.

If that doesn't solve your problem you will need to have someone who understands wiring go over it with a voltmeter and a schematic.
