Motorcycle Repair: modle, sportster 1200, vin number

i just got my first bike.it,S a 1998 sportster 1200 and thats all i know ..how do i find out what modle it is...and if it had motor work done to it..be sides that its like no other sportster..i or my friends have seens befor...the only thing wrong with it is it pops..out of the carb.and nutrale is hard to fine

You can give a dealer the vin number and they should be able to tell you what model it is. The only way to tell on the motor work is to tear the motor down to see what has been installed
Hard to find netural might be your shifter drum is worn. The only way to tell is the pull the trans. On the popping, when does it do it? reving it up or slowing down?
