Motorcycle Repair: take off, kawasaki zx11, safety switches

i have a kawasaki zx11, and my problem is taking off.  it will crank and when i put it in 1st gear and get ready to take off it shuts off.  i know this happens when the kick stand is down, so i checked that but it still shuts off. any idea what this might be.  its a 98 kaw.

Hi Janet,

Test all safety switches:

side stand sw
clutch sw
neutral sw

If the switches test good, I suspect the clutch needs adjusted/bled.
