Motorcycle Repair: Honda trail 90, honda trail 90, rubber gasket

Question
Hello Rich, first off, thankyou for your time.  I have a 1970 Honda Trail 90 that i'm restoring, its my first time restoring anything.  I'm working on getting it running right now and am having difficulty with a seemingly easy fix.  When I turn the fuel on off switch on, or half way off, it leaks fuel.  I took it apart to examine the rubber gasket, which is still in good shape it appeared.  I then traced it and added another thin gasket behind the factory rubber one thinking that it would seal it better.  No luck, still leaking.  I dont get it.  It doesnt make sense why it is leaking.  Any ideas.

Answer
Sorry, for taking so long to get to this answer, but I've been out of town.

Cody, that rubber seal inside is the problem.  Originally, each one of those holes in the seal had a little raised o-ring formed around the hole and that's what created the seal.  Over time those take a set and they start to leak.  If you noticed the seal is symmetrical and can be flipped over.  If the sealing surfaces are worn this may fix it.  If they are hard and have taken a set, it probably won't help.

Regards
Rich
