Motorcycle Repair: 2000 Honda XR100R questions, honda xr100r, carburetor jets

Question
Bill:  my son is trying to get a 2000 Honda XR100R running for a friend.  We need to know how to set the time on it correctly.  Also we need to know the setting for the valves as his friend indicated he tried to tweak the bike himself to get it to run faster by adjusting the valves, but only succeeded in making it not run at all!  Also I saw something somewhere about a tension bolt and we need to know where this is and what to do with it.  Any detailed setting information and/or specs you can give us like this would be much appreciated.  If there is also any type of PDF file with repair information for this year and type of bike, that would also be appreciated.  Thanks!

Answer
Ronda, the valve specifications are .002" for the intake and exhaust valves, set COLD on the compression stroke.

There is a lock bolt to release the spring loaded camchain tensioner, but it must be done when the engine is at TDC (T mark on flywheel), on the compression stroke as well.

Ignition timing is all solid state, so no adjustments can be made.

Clean out any old gasoline from the fuel system and carburetor jets, adjust the valves, put in a fresh spark plug and it should be fine, if it wasn't abused and run out of oil or otherwise damaged.

I don't know of any online specification or shop manuals for this bike, presently.
