Motorcycle Repair: charging system 1985 vt700c shadow, field coil, correct voltage

Good morning Rich,Thank you so much for the anser was very helpful,I
replaced the stator,ret/reg and the stator cover on my shadow,with all new
parts.Rich now I am experincing great charging system infact its charging at a
rate of 15.4 volts and the battery is now boiling when it is ran for about 5-15
minutes.I went back and checked all grounds and positive connections all
good.the parts where all oem replacement.well again thanks you so much
,mike

You didn't ask any question but the voltage output is controlled by the regulator.  It senses the system voltage and then energizes the field coil to keep the battery voltage around 13.5-14.5 volts.  If there's resistance or high load in the circuit the regulator is sensing, it will see a lower voltage and then bump up the field coil current to get it to the correct voltage.  You're probably looking for a corroded terminal somewhere.
