Motorcycle Repair: 79 XLCH sportster, haynes book, xlch

put in new clutch in my 79 sportster,do i tighten nuts all the way down on the release disc so the release disc is all the way down tight on the stud spacers?if not how do you adjust it?i have a haynes book,does not say.(confused)!!!

Yes, you tighten the nuts all the way down on the spacers. Then loosen the cable so you have alot of slack in it. Push the cable inward, towards the primary. This will push the actuator towards the rear. Now adjust the clutch by the screw. Turn it inward, just until it seats and then back out 1/8 of a turn. Tighten the locknut. Now adjust the cable so you have about 1/8 inch play int he clutch lever
