Motorcycle Repair: 98 honda 300ex, puff of air, oil level

Question
i bought a 98 Honda 300ex and there are two hoses that blow oil out i think it may be excessive blow by and i may need new rings, also my clutch wont completely disengage and the bike creeps, i was told it is probably a bent lifter arm, was wondering if you could confirm or point me in the right direction

Answer
Hi Joe...

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the bike you have, but if you have two unattached hoses that allow oil to eject, then I would first assume that those hoses are crankcase vent hoses. On most bikes they connect to the air box. Oil will sometimes find it's way into those hoses. Try starting the bike, and feel the open end of the hoses... if you feel a pulsating puff of air, then they are definately vent hoses and should connect to the air box. Also, make sure the oil level in the engine is at the proper level. If the crankcase is overfilled with oil, it will blow out the vent hoses and end up making a mess of your air filter. As for the clutch, yeah... a bent clutch rod can cause exactly what you are experiencing... Good Luck Joe, and I hope this helps you out!!
