Cadillac Repair: 1990 Deville Transaxle, trans shop, clunk

Question
My 1990 Deville had a frequent "clunk" when coasting down to a stop.  Took to trans shop and they said needs overhaul, but when I picked the car up the clunk was gone and now slips in 3rd gear.  Asked what they did and was told they tried something with the vacuum and/or controls.  Any ideas on how I can tune so it niether clunks nor slips?  Car only has 67,000 miles on it.  Trans is 4T60E, I think. I see numerous TSB's but don't have access to copies.

Answer
I am well familiar with this trans and the reapir facility that you took it to either did NOT want to properly diagnose it and or fix it CORRECTLY. However, They DID get your money and made it worse.

Without actually driving the vehicle myself, I would most likely say that the trans will have to come out MAYBE.

It really needs to be driven before an opinion can be made.
