Motorcycle Repair: Oil thru breather, crankcase breather, stock pipes

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2001 Indian Scout (I know it's not a Harley, but it does have a 88ci or 1442cc S&S V-twin motor) that is pumping oil out of the crankcase breather filter (I mean a large amount of oil). I want to know where I need to start looking, in order to correct the problem. The problem is I'm in Germany and it is extremely difficult to find someone to work on my bike over here.

ANSWER: Does it do it all the time or just when you start it?

QUESTION: Not sure yet, I just re-installed the baffles for the German inspection, and I didn't get it started because there was so much oil coming out of the breather that there is now a huge puddle under the bike. I didn't continue trying to start it when I saw that. The bike hasn't been started in the past 4 months while I was looking for baffles for my stock pipes. I must say that the breather is original and is dry rotted. I ordered two more and they should be here soon. I spent 400 euro on the bike when I got here, but the mechanic was rubbish and didn't fix half of the things I asked him to do. As a matter of fact he stuffed the exhaust with steel wool to try and quite it down to German standards; boy, what a mistake that was.

Answer
Your oil is backing up in to the bottom of the motor. Your check valve in the oil pump is leaking through. What happens is when you start the motor the oil cant be pumped back to the oil tank fast enough and it comes out the breather. Start it and it will clean itself

Good luck and happy riding
