Motorcycle Repair: 98 Softail, compression test, 48k

Question
I'm looking at a 98 Softail with 48K mi. It runs very good and hasn't had problems. Should I assume this bike needs a top-end? If so, approx. how much does a top-end run?
Thanks.

Answer
I cant give you a price on repair, due to the fact that prices are different all over the country and shops have different rates.
As long as it running good you shouldnt have a problem. You can do a compression test and a bleed down test and that will tell you how the top end is doing. I have seen top ends last 20,000 miles and some last 75,000 miles. It all depends on how the bike is ridden and maintained
Good luck and happy riding
