Motorcycle Repair: install a tach on a 97 suz vz800, motorcycle salvage yard, motorcycle tachs

Question
i want to install a tach on my bike. and i would like to know if it is possible and what would i need to get for the job.

Answer
Hi Shawn...

Sure... it's very possible to install a tach. Modern motorcycle tachs are quite simple in their operation. You can get new aftermarket kits ranging in price from $59 on up (depending on their "sleekness") and they can be installed in an hour or less with normal tools. Try these two places: Tucker Rocky and Biker's Choice (google em for their websites). Another option might be to purchase a used tach from a motorcycle salvage yard, but then you'll need to fabricate a mounting clamp. I know it can be done as I have put Honda tachs on Yamahas, etc... But even if you get the aftermarket kits, you may want to get a clymer manual for your bike as you will find the electrical schematic will be VERY helpful in locating the wires you need to tap into. Good luck Shawn and drop me a line if ya need more info!!
