Subaru Repair: Subaru Forester 2003, subaru forester, subaru forester 2003

Question
I have a squealing noise or whistling noise that comes from the dashboard in front of the steering wheel or from the drivers mirror area intermittently.  Any ideas.

Answer
Are we talking about a wind type whistle noise mostly at free way speeds?  If that is the case a couple of things come to mind.  Air can come in past what is called the door gusset(this is the area behind the mirror on the drivers side door).  It could be the mirror has been smacked allowing the area where the mirror mounts to shift.  Aka grocery carts in the parking lot.  Or the door gusset may need to be replaced which is very common to the 2000 to 2004 Outback's and there is an updated gusset kit for the Outback and Legacy, not as common on the Forester but we have seen it a few times.  Try to press your hand in the area I have described as you are driving and see if you can get the whistle to stop or change pitch, if it does than look the mirror over for any marks on it as it may have been bumped into.
