Motorcycle Repair: 81 ironhead oilpump, spring washer, ironhead

Question
i cannot get oil to the return line.---
 1.the oil pump gear is worn down about 3 mm(not all the way across just on the ends)
 2.could a weak spring washer cause the pump not to work?
 anything else that would make a pump not work...thanks in advance.

You sure you have your measurement right? 3mm is about 1/8 of a inch. Generally, the gear doesnt wear, its the pump body that wears out. If you have that much wear, then its time for a new pump. Also, make sure the key is in the keyway and not broken
