Motorcycle Repair: Installing a starter clutch in a 1990 ninja zx-10?, kawasaki ninja zx, starter clutch

Question
I'm buying a 1990 Kawasaki Ninja zx-10 off craigslist for a grand, the only thing wrong with it (as far as I know) is a bad starter clutch (and no title). It, obviously, will not start. How hard is it to install a starter clutch? Is there any guide online to do so?

Also, am I getting ripped?

Answer
Hi Michael...

Well... in a nut shell... yes, you're getting ripped. An 18 year old Ninja ZX10 with no title is a dead bike. Only good for parts. Being as how you ask about repairing the starter clutch, I have to wonder why? So you get the bike to finally start... but with no title, you'll be driving an illegal bike. Unfortunately, I am not familar with the process on the ZX10, but if it is anything like the mid 90's ZX7, well then you're in for a major headache. On the ZX7, you need to remove the engine, break it down completely and split the engine halves in order to replace the starter clutch. To be honest with ya Michael, I wouldn't touch that bike with a ten foot pole. Given it's age and it's current condition, it really is only good as a parts bike. This sounds to me like another one of those "But all it needs is..." kinda scam sales... DON'T DO IT MICHAEL!!!!
