Question
I have a 1971 ct90 justgot it up and running. The problem no gears what so ever seems like the shifter isn't moving anything inside?? When I turn off the engine I hear gears moving for a short time I checked the hi low lever to make sure that it was fully engaged  any suggestions I have pretty good knowlege of power equipment been doing it for 25 years so no dummy just new to the bike thing. Thanks for any help. Doug in pa

Answer
The easiest way to find out what's going on it to get the rear wheel off the ground and the shift through gears as you turn the rear wheel.  You should feel and hear the transmission shift every time you move the shift lever up or down.  If you don't hear or feel anything moving, you'll need to pull the right side cover off.  You should see a ratchet type mechanism that rotates the shift drum as the slift lever is moved.  I've need the ends break off that shifter or it may have just come out of place, or maybe one of the pins in the shift drum has broken or fallen out somehow.
