Motorcycle Repair: 91 FLSTC, long periods, charging system

Question
I am replacing my crane coil for the 2nd time, it keeps cracking on me, i think its from the cover.. What can I do to keep this from happening again ?

Coils crack from overheating from holding to much juice. Make sure you dont leave the ignition on, without the bike running, for long periods. Check your charging system to make sure its not putting out ot much voltage and make sure the coill cover is not touching the posts
