Motorcycle Repair: 72 ironhead clutch cable, clutch lever, clutch cable

Dear mike,
I just got a chrome primary cover for my 72 sportster. How do I change out the clutch cable, when I remove the old cover?

Answer
remove the primary after draining the oil. Screw the adjuster on the cable all the way and remove the cable from the clutch lever. Look inside the primary and you will see the cable attached to a swivel. turn the swivel all the way away from the cable and remove it. It has a flat on it and will only fit one way. Install the new cable and install it in the clutch lever. Install the primary cover. Push the cable inward before adjusting.
