Motorcycle Repair: 1981 Yamaha XS650 clutch cable, clutch cable, adjustment screw

Question
My clutch cable just busted this morning. Tomorrow, I will purchase a new cable. Now I assume I remove the casing where the clutch cable goes into, and go from there. Now how do I go about adjusting the clutch cable?

Answer
There are usually two points where the cable slack is adjusted. Near the motor, there's usually a length adjustment screw which you want to set once and leave alone. Then near the lever there's a screw with a wheel which you can use to make small adjustments in the cable length to allow the correct amount of slack. You want 1-2mm of slack on the lever. You use the small wheel to change the length and the large wheel to tighten it.
