Motorcycle Repair: Lowering an Ultra, stock shocks, spacer

I have a 2001 Ultra.  I've driven all the touring models and the Street Glide handles great.  I think I could lower my Ultra and get better handling.  I have some experience wrenching, how would you recommend proceeding?

you can lower it at the rear. There are kits out there you can buy which moves the stock shocks so the rear is lower by 1". to lower the front you would have to remove the front end so you can get to the fork springs. You then change them out for a set of shorter springs and adding a spacer
