Motorcycle Repair: Honda Twinstar 185T-1978, honda twinstar, ac volts

Question
It's a 6 volt system with,of course, a rectifier to charge the main 6V battery. I want to mount a 12 volt light and a 12 volt air horn.I have a 12 volt battery mounted inside one of my saddle bags with small drainage through the bottom for the horn and light. Question: Can I add a 12 volt rectifier to charge the 12V battery using the 50V AC coming off the alternator. There would then be 2 rectifiers on the bike converting the same AC volts? Would this screw up my alternator?
Thanks

Answer
EWB, I don't think that will work. I've never tried it but the AC voltage you measured was an open circuit voltage but you'll loose half of that voltage right off the bat because the rectifier can only pass the current that has the right polarity.  I'd be concerned that the two voltage regulators will interact and burn one of them out.  How do you plan to isolate the 12 volt system from the 6 volt system since you'd be sharing the same wiring circuits.

I can't recommend it.
